The Hypnotic Power of Words

Powerful, isn’t it?  But true.  Consciously or sub-consciously, words, to be more specific ‘trigger words’ have the power to influence decisions, make people see things the way you want them to, to induce actions and reactions. This is the Hypnotic Power of Words.


You don’t believe this can actually happen, do you?  Let me tell you, this is serious stuff, because time and again we’ve all been hypnotized to accept certain trigger words, subtly of course. Right from birth!


The use of words in a conversation, designed to induce some kind of reaction or action is called conversational hypnosis.


Before understanding this ‘phenomena’ further, let us take a look at what using ‘trigger words’ in a conversation can make us do.


These trigger words are capable of:


  • Painting a certain picture in our minds related to the words

  • Stimulates our imagination

  • Has the power to distract us

  • Bring relationships closer

  • Close deals

  • Create friendships and associations

  • Activates our senses

  • Helps us co-relate certain things which we otherwise would have missed

And much more


During conversations or while reading a book or an article, you’ve probably heard of the expression “when pig’s fly”.  What do you relate it with?   Our brain quickly registers this expression as ‘something that will never happen’, isn’t it?  Have you ever seen a pig fly?


If you are a manager of some department, your boss could one day come up to you and say, “Hello Jim, our company is running losses.  Cut corners wherever possible.” Your brain immediately registers that – cut corners would be, to do something in the easiest, quickest, or cheapest way, often harming the quality of your work.


There are so many such examples of conversational hypnosis were words are used to trigger some expected action.  Another powerful word is the word ‘remember’.  Just saying this word, not only stimulates our imagination, but it enables us to forms a picture in our head which helps us relive the moment.  ‘Remember the time, we……..’


These words are simple, widely used, everyday words, but, when used in the correct manner it can be powerfully persuasive.


One of the most powerful abilities you will ever be able to possess is the knowledge and skills to be able to persuade a person. Whether you are in a Leadership position, in Sales and Marketing, in Training or in an everyday scenario where you want to get the kind of reaction you are looking for.  Possessing this skill will always see you one up the ladder with satisfactory outcomes.


Conversational Hypnosis – The best form of Persuasion


What if you can possess the ability to influence anyone, yet your conversation appears to be like not really influencing them?

This science or process forms a part of  NLP – Neuro-Linguistic Programming and mainly focuses on developing an appropriate kind of communication and behavioural pattern in order to achieve desired results, keeping your end goal in mind, which would be, to persuade and garner action from your listeners, by communicating and influencing their unconscious minds.  The beauty of this science is that, since the unconscious mind of the listener is not even aware that a message is being relayed, you will get minimal resistance.
